Hi, I’m Katrina and I live with my husband Andrew, 2 kids Tyler and Bella and crazy dog Nala in a small village in North Oxfordshire.
Life is full of fun and chaos everyday and I therefore seek solace in interior design. I’ve always been a creative spirit and self confessed organisational queen which has led me down the Maths teacher path for the last 15 years but always drawn me to interiors and making life beautiful along the way!
Meeting Andrew at 20 in our hometown of Cardiff at Uni allowed me to delve into building beautiful spaces for us to enjoy, live and grow in with our family over the last 17 years. From making cosy corners in student accommodation, to revamping our first flat and home in Oxfordshire, I’ve had an obsession for show homes, classic and elegant interiors and how a space can actually make you feel.
Whilst teaching at home during the pandemic it made me consider what makes me truly happy and how I could achieve it.
So with the help of the National Design Academy over the last year I have set up Katrina Louise Interiors - an E-Design service for all you inspiration and organisational needs. By considering space flow, shades and tones, furniture selection, window dressing and the whole mood you want creating I treat every project with the love it deserves. I believe in finding the right balance between style, elegance and that personal touch that ties a project together creating your ideal space that you will never want to leave. Living spaces
Adapting a compact lounge with beautiful dual natural light, tall ceilings and a fixed limestone fireplace could have proved challenging.
Instead I adapted design techniques to fit the space including bespoke gradient cabinetry with ample display opportunities and subtle storage for the family, a natural yet striking overall colour palette, statement mural wallpaper, a bespoke contemporary modular sofa, beautiful natural real wood flooring and furniture, a perfect combination of decorative, task and ambient lighting and strong window treatments to create a real focal point in the room.
Open plan
This impressive grand space could easily get lost, but instead by considering flow around the room and a combination of a beautiful natural elegant dining table and chairs combined with a smaller cosy additional family sofa, delicate drinks cabinet, a selection of eye-catching lighting and collection of bespoke artwork it creates an area for the whole family to enjoy. Centralising meal times with the kids whilst also having somewhere to draw the eye and enjoy a drink in the night. What more could you ask for...
Bedroom solace
When it comes to combining styles this project had it all. Spending a third of our lives sleeping means your bedroom is one of the most important rooms in your home. When one partner requests a dark and moody hotel-chic space and the other is seeking a place of sanctuary to relax, designing this space was definitely interesting. By combining a classical colour palette, strong yet subtle lighting, French boudoir inspired dual window dressings, luxurious silk bedding dressing the curves of the bold furniture, married together with relaxing artwork, this space became the escape that was dreamt of by everyone...
Garden transformations
It is not just interiors I enjoy, exteriors are just as important in my mind. So being given the opportunity to take a blank canvas and create an outdoor living space for the whole family, I absolutely loved! From a rocky base I worked with a wonderful Local Landscaping company to design and create a garden for everyone. Installing a generous ornate Indian Sandstone patio and path, curved raised beds of different heights to add zones for a multi-functional space, a vast natural oak wood pergola to add height, shade and privacy to the area creating another room outside, spaces for ample seating and stylish fire pit, BBQ area and Hot Tub for the whole family to enjoy. Multiple lighting options were introduced to highlight different areas throughout the day, together with a combination of real and artificial greenery to allow for the space to be manageable, accessible and admired all year round.
